CAN YOU SOW LAWN SEED IN WINTER?

Winter is here, but it’s not too late to get your lawn seed in! Look for Cool Season lawn varieties like those below. Ryegrass and Fescues are the best winter performers. Keep in mind that with the exception of RTF Tall Fescue, Cool Season Varieties are hard to keep green over summer in Australia.

Warmer and sub-tropical climates that do not see frost or extreme nightly low temperatures have a good chance of germinating most lawn varieties year round, however this applies to few places in Australia. If you want to sow Couch or Zoysia, and don’t live in the northern states of Australia, we recommend choosing a blend or; wait until late September to sow and use the time between now and then to prepare your soil.
